At a time when there is a worldwide ‘Go Green’ movement and companies world over are making efforts to reduce their carbon footprints, you too, can make your little contribution by simply, choosing your ink cartridges, carefully. Most of us don’t actively think about a company’s environment policy when purchasing its products but now, there is a growing consciousness that every purchasing decision we make can either work for or against the green movement.

Going Green

After ink cartridges, copier toner cartridges and fax toner cartridges have been used, most of us discard the plastic packaging material and the cartridge container as a waste without any second thoughts. However, the companies producing them are very careful about their production methods and also have proper waste disposal systems in place. In fact, the best among them have ways in which consumers can send their empty cartridges back to them so that they can be recycled or reused. And this includes used paper, waste plastic cards and any other stationery that can be recycled.

While it is the company that takes responsibility for communicating information about their eco-friendly systems to the public, we also have a very important role to play. Sending used stationery back to the company for recycling is something that we all can actively engage in thereby, encouraging and supporting the stationery company’s policy.

Getting Involved

But the question that most of us would ask is how are we to know whether the company, we buy our ink cartridges from is eco-friendly or not. It’s not a question which most of us are likely to ask when buying toner cartridges. However, if the stationery company communicates its policy on its merchandise as well as by advertising it, more of us are likely to keep it in mind at the time of making the purchase. Many companies also, offer printer servicing so that not only the ink and paper but also the machines are maintained in an eco-friendly way. Apart from encouraging the company by purchasing its products, the other way is to make a conscious effort to spread the message as well as, participate in the recycling process.

The pricing of recycledink cartridges is not always more expensive than regular ones. It depends on the quality of the item as well as the company from where it is being purchased. Sometimes, consumers feel that sending back the items after using them is very expensive, but if you get a contract with a stationery company that regularly delivers you supplies then you can get the same company to pick up the used items as well. Not only does this save resources, but it gives further impetus to the green movement.

However, it is important to remember that along with the green policy of the company, the quality of the services and the merchandise they offer is also very important. If the ink cartridges are of the best available quality, then only does the company’s green policy become relevant.

If you use an inkjet printer, what do you use?

  • Aftermarket third-party ink cartridges
